Linda A. De Witt, MPH - Serving Communities Through Health

Welcome to my Electronic Portfolio!

This site highlights my professional skills and practical experiences achieved through the Master of Public Health Program at San Francisco State University.

I have worked in health education and promotion for over 15 years.  Much of my work has been at the individual level and driven by the belief that in order to be an effective health educator, I must personally practice what I teach.  Although this continues to fuel my enthusiasm, I realize it isn’t enough.

Through this program’s strong emphasis on social justice, I have learned how social, economic, and environmental determinants influence individual behaviors and more broadly how it impacts our society as a whole.  Moreover, it is apparent that these factors significantly affect at risk populations.

My community-based experiences with a children’s lead poisoning prevention program, a summer lunch program, and a community food bank has given me practical skills to address these same determinants.  In addition, multiple opportunities for reflection, integrated into this program, has helped me develop critical analysis skills, which will be very useful in developing innovative programs that meet the changing needs of our society.

I invite you to explore the information contained on my site.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
